Why is There Red Liquid Coming Out of that Mountain?

Volcanoes Have you ever seen pictures of a mountain like structure with red, glowing liquid coming out of it? If you have, you have seen a volcano erupting. A volcano erupts when the magma chamber under it is filled to the top and cannot hold anymore. When this happens, magma will flow up the vent and out of the top. When the magma is flowing out or down a volcano it is called lava . This lava can reach temperatures of up to 2,000 degree Fahrenheit. Volcanic eruptions are not always explosive . Some volcanoes, called shield volcanoes , do not exploded. Rather when they erupt the lava spills out of the top and runs down the sides. Other volcanoes, called Calderas , are the most explosive. When these volcanoes erupt, lava and debris fly everywhere. These volcanoes can kill thousands of people. Caldera volcanoes take a very long time for their magma chambers to fill.
